How To Feel Great When You Feel Stress
Feeling low and having negative thoughts, instead of positive thoughts is no fun, and brings stress. Stress has a tendency to zap your energy, make you grouchy, and if the emotional upset is deep enough, it can lead to physical maladies. While you can’t escape the challenges of life, you can master your thoughts, so you don’t feel like you are living a constant emotional roller-coaster ride.
Instead, you can bust through stress—by choosing inner-peace—here’s how:
Step one is to commit to feeling great as soon as possible, regardless of what is happening in your environment. Committing to your emotional and physical well-being can be fun, if you allow it to be.
Think about all of the healthy things you do that make you feel great. Do you love to cook, exercise, read, paint, watch sports, tend to the garden, go to the movies? What are your ultimate pleasures?
Step two is to assess your emotional priorities. After you’ve decided on which activity (or activities—no need to limit yourself!) you’re going to partake in, it’s time to work it into the crevices of that challenging situation. It’s not uncommon for problems to command undivided attention. But worrying is a waste of energy since it doesn’t change anything, nor does worrying provide solutions, it just takes your thoughts in exhausting circles. Remember, you are ultimately in control of where your attention goes, how much, and for how long.
While the goal is definitely not to purposely turn a blind eye to situations that require your concentration, be mindful of the fact that if you give all of your energy, all day, to your problems, it can cause you to overthink, overreact, and ultimately overwork yourself spiritually. Feeling great has therefore got to be just as—if not more—important as closing out your challenge. Map out a time (and place, if need be) to engage in your favorite pastimes.
Step three is to determine to follow through. It may seem like common sense that you would always jump at the chance to do what makes you feel great, but let’s revisit the fact that feeling bad can take a lot out of you, including the natural desire to do feel-good things. Sometimes, the inclination to mope can be stronger than the will to snap yourself out of it. Your mission is to upgrade the song in your head by any means necessary.
This is where self-love and self-control come in. They are essential for your advancement. You’ve got to care more about your happiness than anything else, and be determined to get up, get out, and beat those blues. Your spirit and body will thank you!
Here are some more steps to feeling great!
Step four: Employ "I Am" statements to center yourself and call forth the feelings you want. “I Am” is one of the most powerful ways to begin a proclamation about yourself. Whatever you follow it with is the result you are ultimately requesting and can expect to see. Repeating phrases like “I Am calm,” “I Am at peace,” and “I Am confident,” is an example of how you can move into a healthy emotional space. Whatever you want to feel, activate it through this potent declaration.
Step five: Attitude of gratitude—Be grateful. While your current situation may not be going as planned, surely there are other things in your life that are. This is the perfect time to shift your focus and give thanks for all the ways your life is running smoothly. Not only is gratitude a healthy distraction, but it is also a great way to manifest more joy and fortune.
Step six: Entertain the idea that there’s something better. Maybe the result you’re pushing for isn’t the best one for your happiness. Maybe there’s something on the horizon—a scenario you haven’t been presented with yet—that will be more satisfying. Always pursue the highest and best results for yourself. When things don’t align one way, be open to an alternate route and superior results. There is definitely freedom in anticipating the perfect outcome.
